Here are the five reasons why you should review your credit report now. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First Step: Get a Copy of Your Report<\/strong><br>To get a copy of your report, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/annualcreditreport.com\/\">annualcreditreport.com<\/a> or call 877-322-8228. You are allowed one free report from each of the three reporting agencies per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Find and Fix Fraud<\/strong><br>When you review your report, look for signs of fraud and identity theft. This could show up as accounts you didn\u2019t open, inquiries from companies you have never dealt with, as well as balances on credit cards that you don\u2019t own. If you find fraud, fix it by reporting it to the credit reporting agency. You can report fraud online with the reporting agency or call Experian at 888-397-3742, Equifax at 800-997-2493, and TransUnion at 800-888-4213.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Improve Your Credit Score<br><\/strong>To ensure your credit looks as good as possible when you need it most, keep an eye on it. By tracking your credit, you can improve your credit score over time. To help boost your score, monitor your credit for any late payments, too many credit accounts, too much credit per account, and credit inquiries you didn\u2019t approve.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Identify and Fix Errors<\/strong><br>Credit reporting agencies sometimes receive inaccurate information from creditors, banks, and more. When that happens, it can end up affecting your overall credit report. Look over your reports for errors such as accounts you didn\u2019t open, accounts that have been closed but now appear to be open, as well as payments that appear to be late (when they were paid on time). If you find an error, get it fixed by contacting the reporting agency.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Plan Ahead<\/strong><br>Financing a home or car takes good credit. Even if you are approved with mediocre credit, you\u2019ll likely pay a higher interest rate, which will cost you more over the life of the loan. Anytime you\u2019re about to make a large purchase with credit, review your credit report and fix any errors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Improve Your Financial Future<\/strong><br>Your credit report gives you a good look at your past, but it can also help guide your future.
