At LCFCU, we want to help you stay one step ahead, calmly and confidently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s what to watch for this season.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The \u201cIRS\u201d Calling With Urgency<\/strong><br>You get a call claiming you owe back taxes. The person on the line sounds official. They say you must pay immediately or face penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pause.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IRS does not demand payment by phone. They do not request gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you receive a suspicious call, hang up. Go directly to IRS.gov for official information. When in doubt, talk to someone you trust before taking action. Slowing down is often the smartest move you can make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Emails That Look Legitimate<\/strong><br>Phishing emails have become increasingly polished. They may include official logos or reference <em>\u201ctax verification\u201d<\/em> or <em>\u201crefund confirmation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Red flag: <\/strong>an unexpected message asking you to click a link and provide personal information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of clicking, type the official website directly into your browser. If it sounds rushed or overly convenient, take a closer look.
