What Members Should Know

Protect Yourself

Scammers are using new technology to make their messages sound more convincing than ever. One emerging tactic involves AI-generated voice cloning, where fraudsters mimic the voice of a loved one or trusted contact to create urgency and pressure you to send money quickly.

For example, you might receive a call from someone who sounds exactly like a family member claiming they’ve been arrested or are in trouble and need money immediately. Before reacting, pause and verify.

AI-powered scams often rely on urgency and emotion to bypass your instincts. Instead of responding right away, contact the person directly using a phone number you already trust, not the number provided in the message.

When using AI, NEVER:

  • Download or input any personal information data – EVER!
  • Download tax returns onto AI…(medical too!)
  • Input financial documents like investments or names of your financial institutions
  • Input employment information

LCFCU encourages members to protect their personal and financial information at all times. If something feels unusual, trust your instincts and reach out to us before taking action. A quick moment of verification can help prevent a costly mistake.
