Our Commitment to Privacy

Library of Congress Federal Credit Union recognizes and respects the privacy that our members and other users of our website demand. As such, we are dedicated to protect the information obtained through the use of our website with the same confidentiality and safety standards that are provided through all other credit union transactions.

General Use

As a general policy, the Library of Congress Federal Credit Union does not automatically collect personal information from users of its website resource. LCFCU collects standard non-identifying information about visits to its website such as:

  • The name of the domain from which you access the internet
  • (for example, aol.com) but not your e-mail address;
  • The internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our website from;
  • The date and time you access our website;
  • The length of each user session on our website;
  • The pages you visited on our website;


This information is utilized to compile internal reporting of website statistics as well as a resource to improve the content, design and navigation of our website.

Direct Connect Access

Personal identification in the form of account number and password is collected when a credit union member has signed-on to Direct Connect, the secure online banking area of the credit union’s website. This information allows the credit union to control access to only those entitled to perform transactions and inquiries on the account(s).

Cookies


To utilize our website, the Library of Congress Federal Credit Union requires the use of cookies. Cookies are very small files that a website sends to the user’s browser for record-keeping purposes. The Library of Congress Federal Credit Union does not store confidential or sensitive information in cookies. In certain applications, such as Direct Connect online banking, cookies are required to help protect the privacy of a member’s transaction. All of our cookies are temporary, which means that they are active only as long as the member’s browser is running and are deleted when the session has ended.

Cookies cannot be used to capture a user’s e-mail address, obtain data from the user’s hard drive or gain confidential or sensitive information about the user. Additionally, cookies cannot be executed as code or deliver viruses. Browsers can be set to deliver a message when a cookie is sent, allowing the website user to decide whether to accept or reject the cookie.

E-Mail Communication


Personal information transmitted to the Library of Congress Federal Credit Union may be used by credit union staff to respond to inquiries for service or information and/or to improve the service the credit union provides.

As e-mail communications may not be secure against interception by unauthorized individuals, the credit union will not transmit sensitive or personal information that can compromise or violate a member’s privacy while communicating via e-mail. Similarly, members may wish to utilize alternative communication methods when it is necessary to provide sensitive or personal information.

Applications & Online Forms


To better serve the needs of its members, several online forms are provided by the Library of Congress Federal Credit Union. These forms include:

  • Loan Application
  • Check Re-order
  • Membership Application
  • Request for Member Information

Depending upon what type of product or service the user is requesting, by filing the online application the user will be authorizing the credit union to review credit history, employment history and/or other relevant information. This information and any personal information provided by website users from any of the credit union’s online forms is used by LCFCU solely to process the user’s request for service.

Securing the Privacy of Personal Information

Library of Congress Federal Credit Union’s website users should use the “secure application” option to transmit their information via applications and e-mails through the internet. Utilizing this feature, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Encryption is provided. SSL Encryption provides a secure channel for data public key cryptography. If the user is concerned about the security of transmitting any of the credit union’s online forms over the internet, the user is encouraged to submit the information through an alternative resource.

Maintaining Member Privacy in our Business Relationships

From time to time, the Library of Congress Federal Credit Union contracts with third-party vendors and other businesses to perform specific services for us. When doing so, we select business partners and vendors that adhere to privacy standards similar to our own and we ask our business partners and vendors to honor and safeguard all information regarding our members.

The Library of Congress Federal Credit Union does not sell or provide any member information to any list service or third-party organizations for their specific independent use.

Additionally, the credit union is permitted by law to share information that arises out of its direct experiences with you:

  • as required to do so by government regulation
  • as necessary to comply with a government agency or court order
  • to fulfill a request by federal or state regulator
  • if permission is granted by the member

Restricted Employee Access to Personal Information

The Library of Congress Federal Credit Union limits its employee access to member information to those staff members with a business reason for knowing such information. Our employees are educated about the importance of member confidentiality and privacy. Access to personal information requires the use of employee user names and/or passwords and are used only by approved staff. Audit trails are provided to further safeguard the privacy of member information.

Location Data

Location Data is collected to provide location-based messages, offers, and interactions. The Library of Congress FCU mobile app collects location data to enable push notifications even when the app is closed or not in use. It also is used to support promotional offers from the Library of Congress FCU. If you use any location-based feature of the Library of Congress FCU mobile, you agree that your geographic location and other personal information may be accessed and disclosed through the Library of Congress FCU.  If you wish to revoke access to such information, you must cease using location-based features of the Library of Congress FCU mobile via your device’s settings.

Online Banking/Mobile Banking Account Profile Deletion

Remove Online Banking/Mobile Banking Account Profile

If you decide to discontinue using our online services, you have the right to request the deletion of your online/mobile banking account profile.

To request removal of your online profile with Library of Congress Federal Credit Union, simply send an email request to [email protected].

Please type “Remove Online/Mobile Banking Account Profile” in the subject line of your email and provide us with your full name and your preferred phone number to reach you. One of our representatives will be in touch with you to confirm the request and initiate the process.

Upon execution of this request, you will no longer have access to your online digital banking services, including mobile banking.

By industry regulation, we are required by law to retain data about your online profile. Therefore, deleting your online profile will not delete all of the historical records associated with your current enrollment.
