Library of Congress FCU Watch for Borrow Your Phone Scam

Stay Aware, Protect Yourself

What happens: Scammers are approaching people in parking lots, asking to borrow their phone because theirs is “dead” or they “need help.”

How the scam works: They secretly copy information and then take out a personal loan in your name and transfer the money.
how to protect yourself:

  • Never hand your phone to a stranger—especially in public places.
  • If you suspect you’ve been targeted, contact your local police department and/or LCFCU immediately.
